To Have Success in Internet Marketing You Must First Make Your Target Market Selection
What do corporate professionals need to know when they leave their jobs and start an internet marketing business? They want to know how to start a business and how to attract prospects to them.
Many are already marketing their business. But if prospects are getting to your blog or website and quickly disappearing, there must be a reason.
Failure to make a good target market selection will result in poor marketing results. You must identify the niche market you want to address.
For a distributor in a skin care business, is her market everyone who has skin? I don’t think so.
That distributor will have a very difficult time being successful marketing to that huge group of people. Finding a much smaller market is very important in order to attract prospects.
A huge market, all people who have skin, is extremely competitive. Even if a person finds your website, why would the prospect ever consider buying from you? Your website looks like all the millions of other websites.
Here is a second major point. If you are addressing a large market, how do you know what they are looking for?
If your products don’t satisfy their needs, they will look elsewhere.
Some may have an interest. But why in the world should they buy from you? Your ad is just like thousands of ads out there.
Your potential customer wants to find someone who understands her skin problem and can give her solutions.
The skin care market consists of many target or niche markets. Your target market should be small enough so there is limited competition. On the other hand, it must be large enough to have income potential. For example, here are three target markets.
1. These people have purchased skin care products in the past that haven’t given the desired results. 2. The people in this market are looking for solutions to their specific skin problems. 3. Baby boomers seeking solutions for their aging skin. They want scientific proof that the products work.
Making a narrow target market selection is critical to your internet marketing success. You must then address your market in an educational manner. You do not promote your products or opportunity. So how does this affect your marketing strategy?
For one thing, a small, targeted niche market will have far less competition than a broader one.
A second thing is that you must know what the people in your niche market are trying to find.
What are their dreams? What are their questions? What are they searching for on the internet? What problems do that have that need to be solved? Do they lose sleep at night worrying about certain things?
Your marketing is all about addressing these questions, these problems, these wants and needs, and their dreams. How do you find out the deep-seated needs of your target market?
You need to find websites that attract people in your niche market. Message boards, forums, and blogs are great places to go to find out what the people in your market are asking. Search on Google or Yahoo for keywords related to your niche market. Find out what problems are being addressed, but more importantly, what areas are not being adequately addressed. Yes, I know. This takes a lot of time. But it will be worth the time it takes.
Or you can go directly to a person in your target market and ask them these questions.
In order to be successful, you must know exactly what your prospect wants and needs. If you address these wants and needs through educational marketing, you will attract them.
It’s very important that you provide solutions to your prospects’ problems. This type of educational marketing will attract the prospect to your blog or website.
Most likely, you will have several target markets during your career. My suggestion is to list 5-10 potential markets. Then do your research. Don’t take shortcuts.
Target market selection and research on that market are critical at this point. Determine the unanswered questions and unsolved problems for your market. Then provide these answers and solutions.
